PREPARING for a marathon takes more than just running. It involves building endurance, strength, and mental focus.
With the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2025 set for Dec 14 in Batu Kawan, runners now have the chance to warm up and get ready through a special pre-run event.
Organised by the Penang Forward Sports Club (PFSC), the first pre-run will take place on June 21 at Aspen Central Park, Batu Kawan. It is designed to help participants gear up for the big race with the support of a running community.

According to State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, there will be four pre-run sessions held across different locations on both the island and mainland, making them easily accessible for all.
“This event is free for everyone, and runners can choose to join either the 5km or 10km categories.
“These sessions are more than just practice runs. They help runners boost their stamina, get familiar with race conditions, and adjust to Penang’s weather and routes.

“But beyond that, they are about building community spirit and encouraging a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages,” he said in a media conference in Komtar, while also thanking PFSC and sponsors Aspen and Klippa for supporting the event.
PFSC chairman Lim Choo Hooi shared that they are targeting 1,500 participants for the first session.
“We are proud to work with the state government, Aspen, and Klippa on this initiative. It is our first time hosting such a pre-run, and we hope it brings people together and makes a difference,” Lim said.

He also teased that there would be lucky draw prizes during the event.
“Running itself is not the hard part for most people.
“It is getting out of bed to do it! Whether you run fast or slow, what matters most is showing up,” he added with a smile.
Also present was Aspen Group managing director A. Anilarasu, who expressed his gratitude to the Penang government and partners for their continued support.

“After the success of PBIM 2024 in Batu Kawan, many sports events, especially runs, have been held here.
“Aspen is proud to be a key partner in these efforts.
“This partnership opens up new opportunities for us and is a real game changer for the ongoing growth and development in Batu Kawan,” he added.
Earlier, Wong also unveiled the running vest for both men and women for PBIM 2025.
